Benjamin Barnes has been a licensed Realtor with Jim Barb Realty since 2018. He is a member of Blue Ridge Association of Realtors (BRAR), the National Association of Realtors (NAR), and the BRIGHT Multiple Listing System (MLS). He has earned the Director’s Award (2021), the President’s Award (2022), and the Chairman’s Award (2023) for total sales from the Blue Ridge Association. His clients span the range of first-time homebuyers to high-net-worth individuals and businesses, and he is known for giving each his full attention. A Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University graduate, Ben earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Real Estate with a concentration in Entrepreneurship & Entrepreneurial Ventures.
While he hails from the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, he spent his early years attending Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, North Carolina and understands the diverse and rich real estate from the mountains to the coast. His mother’s family owned “Virginia Farm” in Frederick County, where Ben grew up, and he frequently visited his maternal grandparents, Jim and Margaret Barb, in Clarke County. The Barbs are well known and respected real estate professionals working primarily in Clarke, Loudoun, and Frederick counties as well as in West Virginia. For generations, the Barb family farmed a large property in Clarke County along the Shenandoah River before Jim and his siblings expanded operations into entrepreneurial ventures which included real estate holdings and developments. Ben’s grandmother Margaret Barb (née Loy) is from a prominent farming family in Frederick County that produced prize-winning Angus cattle. Today, Ben is actively involved in his community through a number of non-profit organizations and a youth ministry at his church. In 2021, Ben bought his home – a circa 1830 Federal-style brick house south of Berryville, Virginia. Since then, Ben spends most of his free time lovingly and painstakingly renovating and rehabilitating the house as well as researching its history. Ben Barnes not only appreciates the history of the area – its villages, homes, estates, farms, and land – but he is keen to connect properties with the individuals and families who will keep them for generations to come.

I have been with Jim Barb Realty since 1993 working as an unlicensed assistant, office manager, Realtor and Property Manager. Licensed as a Realtor since 1998, I obtained my Brokers License in 2024. Currently I serve as an Associate Broker, Property Manager and Supervising Broker of our Winchester office location. As a graduate of Shepherd College, now University, and continuing to further my real estate knowledge with in-person and online classes. I have made education and life-long learning priorities as I am now working toward West Virginia licensure.
Every day brings new opportunities for me to assist homeowners finding tenants, helping prospective tenants find a home, inspecting properties and coordinating maintenance. Never a day goes by that I am not learning something new!
